Markers of Time considers our ever-changing relationship to human-made and natural systems of time. The project focuses on the dialogue between these temporalities and examines noticeable impacts of climate change on cycles and rhythms in ecosystems that bookend the temperate zone. Works born from expeditions to the arctic and tropics are conceived in relationship to three categorical foci: JUGIS, Latin for ‘constant’, focuses on geological time through ‘the constants’; the sun, moon and stars. METRA, Latin for ‘measure‘, forms a conversation between manmade and natural temporalities. MUTO, Latin for ‘change’ examines incongruities in natural markers of time due to the warming of the planet.
